Officials of Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs arrested on bribery charges

Due to the operative-investigative measures undertaken by the RA National Security Service two officials of the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs have been arrested on the suspicion of bribery. Particularly A. S., Head of the Medical-Social Expertise Agency of the ministry and A.P, Head of Reexamination Division of the same agency have been detained.

As the Press Service of the RA NSS reports, according to the preliminary data a corruption scheme has been formed and functioned for a long period of time in the Medical-Social Expertise Agency. Under the scheme the officials received bribes and transferred them to their supervisors.

Particularly members of several regional commissions of Medical-Social Expertise Agency demanded and received bribes totaling to 20-40 thousand AMD from the citizens in order to classify their disability group. Afterwards, in an illegal and systemic manner the chairmen of the ccommissions distributed the bribes among the members with some part of the money being regularly transferred to the Head of Medical-Social Expertise Agency.

As a result of the search carried out in the office of agency’s head 2.547.000 AMD and 600 USD collected and received from the chairmen of the commissions has been discovered. The majority of the received bribes was enveloped.
It has been found out that at least nine regional chairmen and two Yerevan chairmen of the commission of the Medical-Social Expertise Agency, as well as Head of Reexamination Division of the agency have been involved in the corruption scheme.
Upon the acquired evidence a criminal case has been launched under the requirements of Part 3 (Point 2) of Article 311 of the RA Criminal Code. The preliminary investigation is underway. Measures are also taken to reveal other people involved in the corruption scheme.

Notice: The person suspected in or accused of an alleged crime is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in the manner prescribed by the RA Criminal Procedure Code in accordance with the Court’s verdict made effective.
