Language manifestations of complexes

December 28,2016 12:41

Recently, I read a research which showed how various language manifestations reveal the complex of inferiority. For example, the “Heathrow” Airport in London is not obliged to emphasize its international status, it goes without saying. But the airport of a tertiary city or secondary country mentions is definitely with pride. Or, when Harvard offers its educational programs, it does not indicate in the advertisement that it is an “elite” university. But there are universities in the United States whose name does not sound so “loud and proud” for not to advertise their “elitism.” Just in the same way, an example can be illustrated from the Armenian reality. If Charles Aznavour gives a concert in the Complex of Sports and Concert hall, hardly the poster will mention that he is a “legend of chanson.” But if a singer arrives from Russian advertising “the poetics of the prison”, it is very likely that he can be called a “legend of the Russian chanson”.

Since the period of pre-election self-advertisement is approaching, I would also express a few considerations on my part. When the candidate or a party leader says, “I will do this if I win”, this is normal. But if he speaks about himself in the third person, especially when he says, “Someone Somoneyan is the man who …” or “All people know what Someone Someoneyan has done for this nation”, know that there are a distrust and skepticism about his strength in the remote corner of the subconscious of the pretender. Such psychological mechanism makes the child speak in a bass voice to be perceived as an adult, or semi-literate officials and deputies are defending a doctoral thesis or dissertation because they feel their intellectual inadequacy.

The next manifestation of distrust in your own strength is the use of the words “front”, “nationwide”, “national” in the names of unions of parties which allegedly pretend public consolidation but in fact reflect the fragmentary of these unions. The simple logic hints that there could not be 7-8 front or nationwide and national movement. If there is an idea which will consolidate the RA citizens during the elections (not to say, “the whole nation”) then there would be no need for any party union. And the bombastic names of political unions are again manifestations of a complex of inadequacy.

Eventually, if any political figure introduces himself as a “savior” or brings “salvation”, know that he is not only a man of complexes but also a militant ignorant.
