United World Wrestling has released the World Wrestling Rankings for January 2017. Here, as during the several months prior to Rio 2016 Olympics, Artur Aleksanyan and Mihran Harutyunyan, Olympic silver and gold medalists in Greco-Roman wrestling respectively, have maintained leading positions in the rankings.
This time 11 Armenian wrestlers (6 from Armenia and 5 from abroad) have been included in the top places. Each weight class features top 20 wrestlers of the month. The official website of the Wrestling Federation of Armenia reports about this.
Besides Aleksanyan and Harutyunyan the top 20 lists also include Armenian athletes Varsham Boranyan, Arsen Julfalakyan, Karapet Chalyan and Edward Sargsyan.
Unfortunately the number of Armenian wrestlers in the ranking for freestyle wrestling has reduced. Only Volodya Frangulyan and Levan Berianidze are included in the list of the best freestyle wrestlers.
