Defense Minister: CSTO Secretary General expresses organization’s opinion

January 10,2017 07:02

To the question of Aravot.am that the subversive penetrations attempts in Chinari village, Tavush Marz, which was initiated by the Azerbaijani side was not convicted by the CSTO  (Collective Security Treaty Organization) member countries, and only the Acting Secretary-General of the CSTO issued a statement, Defense Minister Vigen Sargsyan answered,

“Member countries have given an estimation on Karabakh issue thru the statement adopted at the Yerevan Summit. And the statement of the Secretary-General in connection with the incident, I think, was very definite.  The Secretary-General is one of the most important institutions of the CSTO who expresses the opinion of the organization during the period between the sessions.”

CSTO Security General Nikolay Bordyuzha considered the incident as a provocation. “CSTO Secretariat expresses grave concerns over the information received in relation to the armed incident that occurred near Armenia’s Chinari village. Those actions are considered as a provocation within the territory of the member states of CSTO especially amid the serious incidents in Nagorno Karabakh Republic in April of this year during which heavy armoured vehicles were used. It seemed that the NKR conflict settlement process would be pushed forward due to the efforts made by the sides of the conflict, as well as by several countries. However the reports received from the region on the regular ceasefire violations, as well as on the incident of 29 December which claimed the lives of servicemen, raise serious concerns,” Bordyuzha statement reads
