Armenian Minister of Agriculture Ignati Arakelyan convoked a working consultation on Wednesday regarding the issues of elimination of the consequences of natural disasters, specifically the hail damages.
According to the press statement, released by the ministry, acting Minister of Emergency Situations Haykaram Mkhitaryan, Deputy Agriculture Minister Ashot Harutyunyan as well as other officials were present at the consultation.
“The agriculture sector suffers major damages from hail every year, and one of the priority issues remains the application of modern methods to reduce the risk of the hail damages. With this regard, the ministry has worked out a draft concept for the natural disaster risk reduction. We look to receive your observations and jointly discuss the ways to address the existing problems,” the agriculture minister has said as quoted by the press service of the ministry.
The acting minister of Emergency Situations has presented the technical situation of the anti-hail stations in the territory of the republic, their efficiency, management and service issues. The representatives of the MES have pointed out to the inexpediency of covering the territory of the republic with such stations, instead introducing the use of radar stations in certain areas.
The release details that in the course of the consultation a decision was made to study the leading international experience of the use of radar stations, the possibilities of their application in Armenia and organization of the production at place with mapping the locations to deploy as well as provide a financial assessment for necessary investment to be envisaged in the RA 2017 State Budget.
