January 13,2017 10:18

“The information is unofficial, it was presented by the Turkish newspaper on behalf of the name of the company involved in the construction of the wall,” said Turkologist Levon Hovsepyan in an interview with Aravot.am, referring to the rumors that Turkey intends to separate the border with Armenia as well as Iran with a concrete wall.

He noted that Turkey still several years ago had introduced a new program of mechanisms for border control and security, and with regard to building a wall on the border with Armenia, it can be said that it is news though not official.  “Building a wall in the case of Syrian border is understandable because there is a problem of terrorism and smuggling.  The same implies to some extent Iran-Turkey border if we take into account the problem of terrorism and Kurdish PKK.

The problem of smuggling on the Iran-Turkey border is quite serious.  While building a wall on the border with Armenia is meaningless and will not give anything substantial to Turkey as there are very few cross-border violations.  There is a serious problem here because there is a serious control,” concluded Levon Hovsepyan.
