Sergey Minasyan: Prime Minister gave diplomatic response to concession of territories

January 15,2017 07:35

“The matter is about the response of the politician, who tried to answer in a diplomatic form to reporter’s a slightly simplified question,” said political scientist Sergey Minasyan in an interview with Aravot.am interpreting Prime Minister’s response on hand over of territories.  As political scientist Sergey Minasyan mentioned, “It is no secret for anyone that the negotiation process that goes on in the framework of Minsk Group is no secret for the leadership of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Artsakh.

Madrid principles is the Minsk Group process and this resolution comprises concession, in other words, the approach which the co-chairs have comprises a part of territories which is a result of negotiations in return to the final status of Nagorno-Karabakh and which needs to be resolved thru referendum or legally binding voting which Azerbaijan must give its consent, “However, since there are different approaches to these principles in Armenia and even in Artsakh but overall they are ready to discuss, for example, which territories, when and under what status, and then talk about it in Armenia.”

As mentioned by Mr. Minasyan, in Azerbaijan, for example, the Madrid principles or this resolution is not acceptable at all, “For it comprises the fact that at least a portion of former Nagorno-Karabakh along with Lachin and Kelbajar will remain to Armenians, and Azerbaijan must give its consent to it, Azerbaijan is against it, and we see that the Minsk Group process is not advancing.  Since the former, the second and the third President of Armenia, the Cabinet knows it very well, then they can speak about some constructiveness: yes, we are ready to speak about this resolution.  The rest, the part of political commentary and campaign which has nothing to do with the real negotiations.

Prime Minister simply tried to give a political answer to the question in a diplomatic form, and it has nothing to do with the outcomes of the negotiation process, approaches or developments.  No need to look for something between the lines of Prime Minister’s statement, politicians need to make statements, they know very well that there will be nothing beyond these statements.”
