“What peace platform can we talk about when people are brutally killed for just being an Armenian? The war in April… Look at NKR Ombudsman’s report, our work at that period, the statements… people were brutally killed in April just because these people were Armenians. Moreover, the soldier who was carrying out this brutal action has demonstrated the decapitation to his community as an object of pride and he was becoming an object for praising. We have footages which we have presented to the international organizations,” said RA Ombudsman Arman Tatoyan at the press conference held today, referring to the question about the statements on peace platform by Vahan Martirosyan and his friends who had visited Baku.
Under these conditions, also the recent events in Chinari village when there are obvious threats to the lives of children and civilians, Arman Tatoyan considered unserious to talks about the peace platform. Arman Tatoyan notes that this is not a question to be discussed only among Armenians or Armenia. He has studied famous expert Thomas de Waal’s interview where he says that people who have gone to Baku are not even a member of any public organization in Armenia. Generally, pertaining to the violations of human rights during the days of war, Arman Tatoyan opines that the NKR Ombudsman has a very big role. In his opinion, he should be involved in all processes as human rights should not recognize borders.
And regarding the arrest of famous blogger Alexander Lapshin and the possible extradition to Baku, Arman Tatoyan said, “I consider it very disturbing. This is a serious threat in the light of freedom of expression and human rights in general,” Arman Tatoyan said that what happened is contrary to the European Court’s case-law practice. Recall that yesterday, the Public Council had sent a letter to the President of Belarus. Arman Tatoyan said he also keeps this issue in the spotlight and will defend the freedom of expression with all possible options.
