According to Johnny Melikyan, an expert on Georgian affairs, the year 2017 will begin with good and favorable preconditions for Armenian-Georgian relations.
“The electoral cycle in Georgia – the parliamentary elections – are over, now elections are expected in Armenia which will be followed by the visit of the head of the new government. Last year, Prime Minister of Georgia visited Armenia. It was the time when the Friendship Bridge project was kicked off. This project is important in the sense that it will be implemented in the next two years, also a good start was laid in the energy cooperation last year which refers to bridging the energy systems: Russia-Armenia-Iran and Georgia. The year is supposed to be positive,” said the expert on Georgian affairs at the “Hayatsk” club today.
In his words, last year, the number of people leaving Armenia for Georgia for vacation was unprecedented, “1 million 496000 visitors left Armenia for Georgia. We rank the second after Azerbaijan. Our two countries have lifted the visa regime with Iran, we are trying to elaborate joint projects and common packages with Iran so that the Iranians would visit both countries with one visit which will foster the development of tourism.”
