One of the main challenges the agricultural sector of Armenia faces is the lack of modern farming technology and equipment, Armenian Minister of Agriculture Ignati Arakelyan stated at a meeting with representatives of a number of Russian companies specialized in the production of agricultural machinery.
The meeting had come to discuss the possibility of obtaining modern equipment with the minister saying the current out-of-date machinery constrains rich harvesting.
Press service of the ministry said in a release that at the meeting the minister presented the program of obtaining agricultural machinery through leasing partly to be subsidized by the state to the benefit of the farmers.
“If we manage to import high-quality agricultural equipment, we can increase the sector productivity by 20-30 percent,” the minister has stressed.
According to the source, some Russian companies have expressed interest in manufacturing and assembling tractors in Armenia.
