Karabakh Defense Ministry Serviceman Narek Malkhasyan who shot down an Azerbaijani chopper with a grenade moving toward the territory of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic (NKR) from Jabrayil direction during the April war days, is a contract serviceman today.
“During the April military actions I decided to continue my military service, since I endured much that time,” Narek told Panorama.am in an interview.
The soldier who was conferred with the order of the of “Battle Cross” for his exclusive courage, self-sacrifice and skills shown during the defense of the homeland, shared his experience of eliminating the Azerbaijani helicopter. Speaking of his heroic act, Malkhasyan said: “It just happened, I was in the right place at the right time. Anyone could be in my place, I guess.”
Asked what would be his advice to soldiers who may face similar situations during their service, Malkhasyan said: “The most important thing is to master one’s weapon, have the relevant knowledge and use it properly,” the serviceman said, adding much still depends on the certain situation.
Narek Malkhasyan congratulated all the soldiers on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the formation of the Armenian Armed Forces, wishing peaceful military service.
“All of them will ultimately unite with their families, while the peace remains the most important thing,” concluded the serviceman.
