 ‘Iran interested in cooperation with Armenia in military’: Artyom Tonoyan

“The last visit to Iran at the level of RA MoD was seven years ago.  In the meantime, geopolitical changes took place in the region, also in the military,” said expert in Iranian studies, Artyom Tonoyan, at the “Henaran” Press Club, referring to the RA Defense Minister Vigen Sargsyan’s visit to Iran.  He stated that since the independence of Armenia, the Armenian-Iranian relations are developing quite dynamically.  Tonoyan reminded that the Israeli manufactures drones were used by Azerbaijan both in four-day war and against Iran, hence it’s time to cooperate in military industry.

“Presumably, there should have been “backstage” negotiations between Vigen Sargsyan and Iranian MoD and Armed Forces Logistics, Hossein Dehghani regarding this issue.  Iran is interested in cooperation in the military industry.  Armenia needs to elaborate security alternatives options and in this context, Iran should be viewed as an alternative option,” said Artyom Tonoyan.  According to him, in the sphere of military industry, Armenia’s and Iran’s super investigation potential allows assuming such cooperation, about which we will not hear any official statements for there are certain historical, religious, and political problems and controversies between Iran and Azerbaijan.
