Armenian Defense Minister Vigen Sargsyan has met with Ali Akbar Velayati, the senior adviser to Supreme Leader of Iran and the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
To note, Ali Akbar Velayati has served as the Iranian foreign minister for 16 years (1981-1997) and been noted for his mediation efforts in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement back in 1992.
Speaking of the resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, Velayati has stressed: “We hope to mediate between Armenian and Azerbaijan and see another example of the Armenian-Iranian historic collaboration.”
According to the Iranian ISNA news outlet, Ali Akbar Velayati has noted: “Certain external forces, like Israel, are trying to penetrate into the region and interfere with regional processes. We should remain cautious to avoid conflicts in our region, stirred up by outsiders.”
Armenian Defense Minister Vigen Sargsyan has expressed his satisfaction over the friendly high-level Armenia-Iranian relations. “Armenia and Iran face common challenges, however we are confident the bilateral cooperation will allow us to overcome those challenges,” the source quotes Minister Sargsyan as saying.
