President Serzh Sargsyan received today the Director General for the European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations at the European Commission Christian Danielsson, who has arrived in Armenia in the framework of his regional visit.
The President of Armenia welcomed the guest and expressed hope that during his two-day visit to our country Mr. Danielsson has had productive and efficient meetings and discussions. Serzh Sargsyan noted with satisfaction that previous two years have been pretty active from the Armenia-EU cooperation point of view: the political dialogue has invigorated and cooperation in different areas has expanded. In that context, the President highlighted the importance of high-level reciprocal visits and referred to the visits of the President of the European Council Donald Tusk, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini and other high-level visits to Armenia.
Noting that the negotiations over the new framework agreement between Armenia and the European Union are moving on successfully, the interlocutors expressed hope that in the nearest future the process will enter its final stage. Christian Danielsson stressed the importance of President Sargsyan’s upcoming visit to Brussels which, according to Mr. Danielsson, will give a new impetus to the development of cooperation.
Among the important achievements of the Armenia-EU cooperation, the President of Armenia mentioned the adoption by the EU Council of the mandate to conduct with Armenia negotiations on the Common Aviation Area agreement and assured that our country remains committed to moving the relations with the European Union forward, including in the areas of the reforms, mobility, good governance, democracy, human rights, economic cooperation and other areas of mutual interest. Serzh Sargsyan expressed gratitude to the EU for the efforts and resources contributed to the process, including the assistance provided for the parliamentary elections in Armenia.
