Aravot.am interviews political analyst Hayk Martirosyan.
– Mr. Martirosyan, in your observation, what does the rival wish to “say” by the example of the recent subversive attack initiated in the direction of Talish?
– First of all, I do not accept the work “rival” in this case. The rival is the opponent playing chess with Levon Aronian, the one who is standing on the other side of the barricades of the political fight rather than the barbarian who beheads people, kills and handicapping elderlies and strives to destroy you. The word is an “enemy” and we must begin to use it. Otherwise, not only the actions of the Armenian side become inadequate but also even the vocabulary. Now about what he wishes to “say.” Unlike the Armenian side, Azerbaijanis do not want to say anything. They act. And they are acting in quite calculated and far-reaching manner. They are constantly attacking the Armenian side and therewith are trying to demoralize the rear, starting from the Armenian mothers and ended with a mass falling into the arms of treason in the case of a war threat, who is even ready to give the homeland allegedly just for not to have casualties and no war. It is an expansive theme but the fact is that Azerbaijan is following this highly effective policy for already several years, and since the Armenian side is only defending and has no will to answer, this and more violent attacks will continue. And there will be more casualties, more losses and more mothers having lost their children.
– What kind of contextual statement should we expect from the OSCE pertaining to captive of the Azerbaijani soldier during similar incidents?

– Expect? It is already clear that nothing should be expected. Supposedly, the co-chairs are honest and objective and strongly condemned Azerbaijan. And what will change this? Will Baku be terrified, horrified, astonished and immediately become civilized and kind? Of course, not. Unlike the Armenians, they do not care who says or thinks what. They do what they need to do and this is where their strength is. Instead of expecting OSCE texts or following the movement of the co-chairs’ lips, it is necessary to expect a dignified military position from our own leaders, including the generals. Certainly, it is meaningless now and, therefore, everything will continue as it is used to be.
– During the recent Lavrov-Mammadyarov meeting, Mammadyarov said that he is displeased with the outcome of the meeting. In your opinion, why does Azerbaijan send a note of appeal to Russia?
– Because they want everything to be as they want. Because they do not only accept the false word “concession” concocted by Armenians and persistently kept alive in this case, but also believes that Armenia should cede and cede everything. They are doing right in terms of their interests. They are displaying a manly and adamant stance and do not fear of anyone. Certainly, it is stupid for them to accept Armenia’s “concession” because as a result, they would have quickly knelt Armenia. But they have chosen a tougher way and if it proceeds like this, it is not excluded that they will report successes.
– During the meeting, Mammadyarov said that the meeting of foreign ministers of RF, RA and Azerbaijan is possible. What should we expect from the Azerbaijani side that has rejected the commitments of Vienna and St. Petersburg until now?
– Nothing, especially since the foreign ministers do not decide anything.
– Before the mentioned meeting, Mammadyarov said, “if Russia engages in this issue with all seriousness, the status quo will change.” In your opinion, what is the message of his remark?
– It contains the message that if Russia oppresses Armenian so hard that Armenians would willingly hand over not only seven liberated territories of Artsakh but also the former Autonomous Region of Nagorno-Karabakh, presently NKR, or a part of it, then it will be a progress. It is approximately what Levon Ter-Petrosyan says. And since public propaganda of treacherous views is, in fact, tolerated in Armenia, then not so many fantastic ideas are articulated from the lips of Azerbaijanis. Generally, we must understand that if official Yerevan and a segment of the Armenian society do not radically change their position on ways of the so-called settlement of Artsakh, over the time, Azeris will celebrate a victory as a result of their calculated and consistent policy. And at that time, the false patriots who are constantly shouting about the Armenian army and invincibility of the Armenian nation will be silent forever. Instead of being engaged in self-deception, it is necessary to conduct the right policy, allow the army operate and stand up not from defeating but winning positions. No one has achieved a victory by pursuing a policy from losing positions.
