Trump banned the entry of 7 Muslim countries’ citizens to his country which I think is a manifestation of classical populism with “racist inclination.” “Ooh, what a courageous boy he is for he does not allow all Muslims to come to our country to eat our bread and organize a terroristic act.” Such possible reaction for an average American is based on his/her ignorance. I do not have detailed information about all of them, I will talk about our neighboring country Iran. Firstly, no case is known that a citizen of Iran had carried out a terrorist attack in the United States. Instead, cases are known when the US security has intimidated the citizens of Saudi Arabia against whom Trumps’ ban is not extended. Secondly, more than 117 thousand Christians are living in Iran (by the census 2011) including Armenians, more than 25 thousand Zoroastrians and more than 8 thousand Jews, and opportunely, the state attitude towards these religious minorities can be considered exemplary for European countries and the US.
Trump’s restriction to say the least has caused inconveniences for Iranian-Armenians. Thousands of our compatriots are going particularly to Los Angeles, live a few weeks or a few months and then return to Iran just as Armenians are doing. Many of Iranian Armenians have a “Green Card” and property in the United States. We know Armenians better but actually, millions of people of various religions are affected by Trump’s populism, and I am not sure that the security of the United States benefits.
But evaluating the US President’s populistic decree negative, I cannot say positive words about this country’s legal system. The President signs a decree but the Prosecutor General, other prosecutors and the courts do not hesitate to dispute it legally. For the US Acting Attorney General, Sally Yates, this ended with the dismissal from the office and even was accused of “treason”. But there is no doubt that Sally will continue to live and work perhaps outside the state system, she will not be deprived of the property and no special auditing will be conducted in the stands of her relatives. Trump does not have such leverages.
The US President irrespective how wrong he is in this case, he is not the man who hold the “nail and hammer” in his hands. The legislative and judicial authorities have their own “hammers”. The states and local self-governments also have similar tools. Trump says that he will not give money to the cities which accept refugees, the Chicago Mayor says, I do not care, I will continue to receive them. Do you think that Trump would not wish to “hit on the head” of this mayor? Especially Trump would definitely wish to do it. Simply he has no chance doing it.
