French Ambassador to Armenia comments on NKR conflict

February 14,2017 22:25

“The Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group spare no effort in resuming the peace talks (of the NKR conflict),” French Ambassador to Armenia Jean-François Charpentier noted the aforesaid during today’s press conference. Panorama.am reports.
He underscored that there is no alternative to the peaceful settlement of the NKR conflict.
“I state that the conflict can only be tackled by means of talks. The reason I state that is the fact that we have such an experience of the conflict settlements through peace talks in the 20th century,” he said.
The ambassador considered unacceptable the current situation.
“We believe that the current situation cannot be acceptable by any sides of the conflict, as there are victims on both sides. The sides suffered human losses not only during the April war but also currently on the frontline. This situation cannot proceed any longer,” the ambassador noted.
In order to settle the conflict, the ambassador highlighted the implementation of commitments undertaken during the meetings on different levels.
“In this context, it is significant to realize a factor: the settlement of the conflict does not depend on the environment, but rather on the will demonstrated by the sides. France is ready to host a meeting when a tangible material is offered to be discussed. French President François Hollande also announced it a few days ago,” he said.
The reporters underscored that the statements of the OSCE Minsk Group condemning the ceasefire violations put an equal sign between the sides failing to mention the name of the peaceful side. Armenia often expresses complaints about the matter. In response to the remark, the ambassador recommended them to thoroughly read the statements released by the Co-Chairs in the past 1-1.5 year, as they contain implications and messages.
