“Azerbaijan has announced about its interest in rockets and is negotiating with Russian and Pakistan on this. There are allusions that such cooperation is also possible with Iran, and actually, from whom and what they will buy, there is no clear information yet,” said coordinator of Razm.info specialized website Karen Vrtanesyan, in response to the question of Aravot.am of which weapons Azerbaijan is currently interested.
Note, that recently Aliyev had announced about the talks with Russia on the purchase of weapons.
“It is known that Azerbaijan is negotiating not only with Russia but also with Pakistan which has long-distance missiles. Their features and quality are other matters. We should not be surprised if Azerbaijan will purchase the next batch of weapons, including rockets. They have announced about purchasing “Iron Dome” system but I have highly doubt that it is capable of protecting from “Iskander” missiles. With this weapon, they can for example only “catch” rocket fired by Palestinians,” said Karen Vrtanesyan. As for the possible sale of “Iskander” to Azerbaijan by Russian Federation, as mentioned by the expert, “As the worst scenario, we must be ready for it too.”
