There is an abyss somewhere in the world. As you understand, it is neither a geographical nor a physical concept. It is a purely political category which is used by all of our oppositions for 25 years. More precisely, they are interested not in the abyss itself as on its brink where according to them, our country is. For if Armenia were in the abyss, at the bottom of it, then who knows how it would get damaged so that it would not be possible to fix the “running gear” in general. While there is still a hope on the “brink of the abyss” to go back to the mainstream, to the fabulous and fruitful gardens where the fruits themselves are falling into your mouth. Since the country is on the “brink of the abyss”, then there are angels and heroes who will not allow the country to appear right into the abyss. On the other hand, it should be noted that the brink of the abyss is a pretty stable place because being in such a state for 25 years, the country does not do the final and fatal half-step.
The entire problem is that those who were holding the wheel of the power in the past do not agree that the country was on the brink of the abyss during their tenure. The communists, for example, are confident that the country was on the brink of the abyss during their tenure but the ANM party members were completely thinking differently in 1990-91. On the other hand, the ANM party members who after 1998 became Kocharyan-supporters are confident that the ANM party members have led the country to the brink of the abyss. In other words, the country is somewhere else and the ANM party members took the wheel and drove straightaway to the abyss. But the ANM members themselves are sure that they have driven to entirely a different place, “it’s you who destroyed Armenia”, meaning that the Kocharyan-supporters led the country to the brink of the abyss.
I do not want to keep this going as the modern history has passed before our eyes. We arrived at the point when the oppositions, including Kocharyan-supporters accused the RPA and Serzh Sargsyan of leading Armenia to the brink of the abyss. Again, if they have “led” then until 2008, the country was somewhere else, not on the brink of the abyss. Listen to the speeches of 7 out of 9 units participating in the elections in the next one month and be sure that all their representatives will necessarily use the “brink of the abyss” character. Perhaps, they think that the voters like this allegory.
I hardly will be able to convince those who enjoy this masochistic pleasure from this “extreme” (the illusion of living on the brink of the abyss for 25 years). But the truth is that the state-of-affairs in Armenia over 25 years is difficult, and it is explained by 50% that our two neighbors do not want Armenia state to exist at all. Hence, we will never live in blissful, perfectly safe and prosperous conditions. The reason for the other 50%, certainly, is the frailty and avidity of our authorities. Nevertheless, we shape these authorities no matter how the elections proceed. Whereas no one wants to agree with this last allegation.
