On February 28, a plenary Board meeting was held at the Ministry of Emergency Situations devoted to the summarization of results of the activities carried out by the Ministry within 2016, and the discussion of current issues and the ways of their solution. The Board meeting was attended by the heads of all departments and the entire staff of the Ministry.
Welcoming the participants, Emergency Situations Minister Davit Tonoyan noted, that great work had been done from the very first day since the establishment of the Ministry. According to D. Tonoyan, the public demand was increasing and transforming day by day and the Ministry should be able to meet those requirements.
-I think, more attention should be paid to civil protection issues. The mission of the Ministry of Emergency Situations is not primarily meant to respond, but also to ensure the protection and security of our country, – concluded D. Tonoyan.
The main report was delivered by RS Director, r/s Colonel M. Ghazaryan.
The key areas of activity in 2016, the results achieved and the future steps were briefed in the summary report. Presenting the statistics of emergency cases in the reporting year, RS Director noted, that the emergency cases registered in 2016 decreased by 13.4%, the number of victims decreased by 20%.

In order to provide fast and effective assistance to citizens blocked on the highways of national importance because of winter blizzard, round the clock bases were deployed in Syunik, Gegharkunik and Aragatsotn regions in January-February, 2016, and then from December 27.
During the reporting period operational-tactical command and staff and other special tactical training exercises and drills were conducted. According to M. Ghazaryan, the issues on the creation and development of CD units were rather highlighted.
“911 SOS” alarm application and SMS system was introduced in the “911” Service – thanks to which, the information was transferred to 911 service, thus significantly facilitated the process of requesting assistance for people with special needs.
During the Board meeting, the Minister of Emergency Situations was reported on 3.9 magnitude earthquake registered at 10: 17 pm, about 5 km northwest of the town of Kapan. The Head of Syunik Regional Rescue Department, r/ s Colonel B. Zakaryan reported on the activities implemented, noting that the situation was under control. Minister Tonoyan inquired about the registration of the seismic data, instructing to intensify the cooperation between the regional rescue departments and the seismic protection regional structures.
In concluding remarks, the Minister of Emergency Situations positively assessed the activities carried out within 2016, noted the steps towards solving the current problems and gave relevant instructions.
The best employees and divisions of 2016 were awarded.
By Emergency Situations Minister’s order, the best employees, as well as structural and separated divisions were awarded diplomas and medals for duties and tasks carried out within 2016. The winners in various nominations of the National Festival of security and salvation on theme entitled “Courage Constellation” were also awarded.
Minister D. Tonoyan awarded the honorary rank of lieutenant to 4 employees of the Ministry in wheelchairs.
