As reported earlier, according to the election campaign program of the “Yelk” alliance, there should be negotiations started for signing an agreement on the transit of Iranian gas to Georgia via Armenia.
In this regard, the candidate of the Alliance, Tigran Avinyan, explained in the interview with Aravot.am, “Therewith, we will become a transit zone for gas carriers and receive respective payment. This will also mean some reduction of dependence on Russian energy carriers.” The program of the “Yelk” also states that the Armenia-Iranian railway should be built by tranches. According to Avinyan, this program can be implemented with loan and investment funds.
“Starting from China, the goods can get to Europe via our territory. Everything depends on the talks, there are political risks,” mentioned Mr. Avinyan. We were interested to know whether Russia’s interests in the region will not be an obstacle for the implementation of these two programs. Tigran Avinyan answered that we must be guided by the interests of Armenia.
