“My imagination does not allow, I cannot imagine why someone should have imported an “Igla” anti-aircraft missile complex to Armenia illegally,” so interpreted Avetik Ishkhanyan in the interview with Aravot.am, referring to the news of Samvel Babayan’s arrest. He stressed that he is not in Yerevan and read the news on the Internet, hence, his opinion may not be substantiated, however, he thinks that if it comes to the rebellion, then “Igla” is not the weapon with which they must make a rebellion, “I cannot imagine it. I do not know Samvel Babayan in depth but at least he does not leave an impression of an insane person on me who could do such a thing for organizing a rebellion. He is a pretty smart person, in my impression. It appears unlikely to me that he would do it. All of this is a very dark story. As far as I know, he knows Serzh Sargsyan very well and accordingly, he also knows Serzh Sargsyan’s methods of governance, the attention of the Special Intelligence Services on him, and I do not think that he would be so stupid to do it.”
Avetik Ishkhanyan opines that functionaries are isolating him as they see a danger for them, they did so with Zhirayr Sefilyan too, “I still do not believe that Zhirayr Sefilyan was associated with the armed group and was arrested in advance. On one hand, they are isolating the politicians representing a potential threat, on the other hand, there could also be a different issue. I begin to suspect the theory of conspiracy. On the one hand, the hasty of the Karabakh conflict settlement, on the other hand, giving an airtime for Levon Ter-Petrosian by H1 TV channel where he backed up Serzh Sargsyan in making unilateral concessions on the Karabakh issue, and on the other hand, isolating the politicians who have fought for Karabakh and would be ready to fight again. I begin to doubt that there is indeed truth in it.”
