“That address has become a place where they “traditionally” hinder journalists’ work”, the Chairman of Committee to Protect Freedom of Expression, Ashot Melikyan gave such an assessment referring to the attack on “Azatutyun” Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reporter during the conversation with Aravot.am.
“Azatutyun” Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reporter Sisak Gabrielyan has been subject to attack in Kond, who has noticed that the electors, before going to the polling station, enter the Republican Party of Armenia’s MP candidate Hakob Beglaryan’s office, and coming out some of them have had money at hand and the correspondent has entered the office himself. A group of people, including young people, have attacked the journalist, snatched his mobile phone, a scuffle has commenced and the correspondent has gained a little injury around the eye.
Let us recall, that in this very office during 2013’s elections an act of attack has been recorded towards the journalist. Mr. Melikyan, reminding us of the cases of former elections, said that the story is repeating during these elections: “This is the outcome forasmuch as the guilty ones remained unpunished last time and the impunity is the basis of the recurrence of such like incidents”. Pursuant to Mr. Melikyan’s words, the committee has recorded one more case. Araratnews.am correspondent Shoghik Galstyan has been subject to violence as well.
