The greatest result of the parliamentary elections of April 2 was expectable to RPA Executive Body member Gagik Minasyan. The latter told that his expectation was to have fair elections which would not bring forth second thoughts. The representative of the party in power recording an absolute victory in the elections believes that the election lists provided the presence of broad social layers and their participation in the elections. In parallel with the fulfilled expectations, public’s active involvement in the former elections was surprising as well. Taking into account people’s disappointment with political powers Gagik Minasyan has been surprised by electors’ unprecedented participation.
Let us remind you, that more than 60% of the electors partook in these elections. “This also speaks of the fact that the elections did not leave anyone indifferent”, told the speaker adding: “God bless, that our electoral code, besides its manifold positive manifestations has also one more – the release of the electors’ list, which puts a full stop on the conversations about the votes by dead and the ones absent from Armenia”.
He regards the mentioned, as well as live translation from polling stations to be one of the most important achievements due to “4+4+4” format. The exception that one could control who the elector gave his vote to was the third achievement. In contrast to his party fellows, Gagik Minasyan regards money distribution during the elections to be an impermissible and condemnable phenomenon. However, he notes that the distributed money cannot be considered as bribery forasmuch as nobody was eventually able to control the vote of the people who took the bribes.
The journalists noticed that European observers had also emphasized that everything would have been very good if it weren’t the election bribes, application of the administrative power, parties’ interference. Gagik Minasyan opposed: “This was a huge step forward, the political parties not having received the necessary number of votes approve this as well. I can consider no seeing this as an intention. There were shortcomings, but they did not cast a shade on the process. Our primary issue was to conduct open and fair elections, which has been accomplished. Nevertheless, this view is not disputed at least by 9 political powers who have partaken in the elections.” The fact that no post election evolvements commenced in the street is the public’s achievement to the speaker as well.
