‘I know deputy ministers’ sons on the frontline’: Vigen Sargsyan

April 22,2017 07:33

Vigen Sargsyan, the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia, referred to the question to what extent the component of solving social problems has been included in the publicly discussed, new projects “I Am” and “My Honor” suggested by the Ministry of Defense and whether the minister has data for how many sons of oligarchs serve on the frontline.

“I am not aware of the numbers of oligarchs whose children serve on the frontline as we do not have the legal definition of an oligarch. I know MPs’ and deputy ministers’ children to be on the frontline now carrying out military duty. I shall not mention the names”, said the minister. As for the solution of social problems through these programs, the minister urged to look at this issue from another angle. “Imagine, in the case of middle class, parents will never be able to solve the problem of the future housing of their sons. Instead of labor migration, a good option is proposed: if he is ready to show that he can serve on the frontline we offer a social program.”

Vigen Sargsyan also commented on the reactions that through these projects militarization of society happens and that they mean we refuse peace. “We have not declined our peace, on the contrary, we are the advocates of it in the region”, claimed he.
