Asked how she imagined the settlement of Armenian-Turkish relations and if the word “reconciliation” is proper in here, mayoral candidate Zaruhi Postanjyan answered: “First and foremost, we should recognize our rights. It is already the time. I think – we have even lost time. Armenia’s signature should be withdrawn from Armenia-Turkish transactions. Though it is already not in the parliament, the signature proceeds to remain. Besides, we should recognize our claims by force of law. I have drawn 3 bills with reverence to that, one of them regarding Bolshevik-Kemalist deal pursuant to which the territories of our motherland were simply granted to Turkey and which is relative to the illegitimacy of that deal as well. The third one refers to the right of indigenous people. We – Armenians are indigenous people of this territory, the territory belongs to us and it is “yerkir tsirani”.”
Zaruhi Postanjyan told that we should mourn today no more: “On the contrary, we should issue our claims and recognize our rights. We were reborn 100 years ago, what happened to our nation – my grandmothers and grandfathers. They survived and gave birth today. We will continue the revival. To demand solely genocide recognition from states is not efficient. We should demand the recognition of our rights and compensation. They are both material and moral, territorial similarly. This should be the component of our state policy and external diplomacy. We should stay silent no more. Meanwhile, throughout these 25 years we have merely kept silent and mourned. We will keep silent and mourn never again, but demand the recognition of our rights.”
Asked whether she is for the establishment of diplomatic relations with Ankara without the recognition of preconditions, Zaruhi Postanjyan replied: “Assuredly we are for without preconditions, but we are also conscious that Turkey possesses preconditions and limitless appetite as well. We know who Turkey is, you should have your own diplomacy. They should recognize our right. Even Armenia does not want to recognize that right. We have already reached a historical period where the recognition of right has become an indispensable and urgent mean to be able to become a serious factor within the territory alike.”
Zaruhi Postanjyan addressed the question implying how they could impose anything on Turkey, saying that the tyrants of such states also fail, we witnessed what happened to Gaddafi: “Iraq does not exist on its political map anymore. This awaits for Turkey and Turkey’s sultan – Erdogan alike. We should be prepared for those events.”
