‘Elite’ topics

April 27,2017 13:21

Who will be the president and vice-presidents of the National Assembly? Who will preserve the ministerial portfolios, and who will be deprived of them? Who will our party bosses let become an MP and who not? I have no clue.

I, in comparison with a lot of my colleagues, am not close with the president, prime-minister, as well as the leaders of the Prosperous Party of Armenia and Armenian Revolutionary Federation, do not partake in their conversations and negotiations, nor do they tell me what they interact around. Shortly, I do not have “reliable sources”. But to say that I am much concerned with who will take what position, wo will acquire what mandate, would be an exaggeration alike.

But here we see that our populace is much interested in these issues. Another driver, as soon as I took the taxi, asked: “It is already decided who the the president of the National Assembly will be, is it not?” I say: “The new parliament has not gathered yet, to select a president.” “No, – the driver insists, – they told by radio just now that Sharmazanov is going to be.” I shrug my shoulders, well, if they say by radio, then they know something. “But Tashir’s Samo will be insulted” – he was a “politically experienced” taxi driver. But the primary topic, assuredly, was other – “Will this country be fixed?” “I do not understand that question.” “Shall we see good things in the future?” “I see good things in my life every day.” Silence. To proceed with the “elite conversation” I ask: “And who have you voted for?” Silence until the end of the route. If the man does not reply to this question then the answer is obvious.

And here is what I think. Neither my nor his life depends on who will the president of the National Assembly be, and who will his deputies from PPA and ARF be. It is not dependant on who the ministerial portfolios will receive and how many of them will be of the ARF. It does not depend on who Tsarukyan will decide to grant a ministerial mandate and who he will deprive this pleasure of. Our lives depend to some extent on who we have voted for during the elections. Primarily it depends on whether we are shy of the choice we have made. And for the most part it depends on whether we can see something good in our lives or not. When people ask me: “When will this country be fixed?”, they cherish a secret hope that I will “fix this country” instead of them. When they say – “they should be shot and burnt”, they presuppose that I should go and burn or shoot someone. Or I will command somebody to to it. When they ask who will take this or that position, they expect me to give a name which will enable them to fully sublimate their negative emotions.
