Agramunt’s papers stolen, money untouched

April 27,2017 17:50

Discussions were in place during the Spring session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) on President Pedro Agramunt’s visit to Syria.

The Assembly asked questions to President Pedro Agramunt, PACE delegates Alain Destexhe and Jordi Xucla. Note that during the discussion Pedro Agramunt was not seated on the presidential seat in the session hall. The majority of the questions towards Agramunt were related to what disturbed him to inform the Assembly on his visit to Syria, especially when it became clear subsequently that he had received the invitation to Syria simply a few days before the Bureau session.

Mr. Agramunt initially announced that he accepted his faults that he did not inform the Assembly thereby underestimating the response that could raise by the Assembly. But he insisted as well that Russian side has manipulated his visit. Even he was surprised while getting on the plane.

As far as not informing the Assembly is concerned, Mr. Agramunt tried to justify himself, as if there was not telephone or WiFi in the hotel. He assured as well: “I have visited Syria as a Spanish Senator, not as PACE president.”

Asked how did he assess the re-evaluation of the issue of him taking the position of the president in the future, Mr. Agramunt mainly repeated the same justifications: “I have already told that I have made mistakes, I admit them, of course, I am concerned with my and PACE’s rating.”

Mr. Agramunt showed his concern as his security was under threat and told: “Yesterday some people have entered my room, stolen my papers. My purse was there alike, but they have not touched the money.”

Summarizing, Mr. Agramunt informed that on Friday, during the last day of PACE Spring session he will make an announcement. The majority of the delegates are inclined that Agramunt implicated his very resignation by saying “an announcement”, he simply waits for the visit of the King of Spain to the PACE: to welcome him and dispatch and then to inform about his resignation.

Aravot.am asked Mr. Agramunt whether it is possible that he resigns taking into account the opinion of PACE delegates, forasmuch as the majority of them requires his resignation. Mr. Agramunt got disappointed, regarded our question pointless and noted: “I do not see any sense in answering this question. Let us wait.”
