Armenia: legal professionals complete HELP learning course

ifteen legal professionals from Armenia have successfully completed a Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals (HELP) distance-learning course on “Admissibility of Evidence in Criminal Proceedings”. The course was organised as part of the project “Supporting the criminal justice reform and combating ill-treatment and impunity in Armenia”, which is funded within the European Union and Council of Europe programme “Partnership for Good Governance”.

The 15 professionals were awarded certificates at a ceremony attended by representatives of the Justice Academy, Investigative Committee, Prosecution Office and Chamber of Advocates. In their speeches at the start of the ceremony, each of the representatives highlighted the importance of HELP courses for Armenian legal professionals, stressing that the promotion of human rights is a commitment undertaken by all Member States when joining the Council of Europe and the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).

The HELP programme supports the Council of Europe Member States in implementing the ECHR at national level. HELP is a network of national training institutions for legal professionals of the 47 Member States. The programme also includes a methodology and free online platform with self-learning resources and distance-learning courses.

The Armenian prosecutors, investigators and lawyers who participated in the pilot HELP course passed with flying colours, obtaining an average score of 99.69 per cent.
