Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and New Zealand exchanged letters on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Armenia and New Zealand.

In his letter addressed to Gerard Anthony Brownlee, Edward Nalbandian notes that since very inception of the interstate relations the two countries have succeeded in forging genuine partnership based on trust and respect, adding that Armenia attaches great importance to continuous development of mutually beneficial relations with New Zealand in wide range of areas.

Foreign Minister of Armenia notes with satisfaction the increasing partnership within the framework of international organisations, highlighting that the positions of Armenia and New Zealand are quite close on many issues of international significance.

Minister Nalbandian acknowledges the tangible contribution of the Armenian community of New Zealand to the development of bilateral friendly relations.

Foreign Minister of New Zealand notes in his letter that despite the geographic distance between Armenia and New Zealand, our two countries maintain a warm relationship, based on shared commitment to international law, and through shared membership in international organisations.

He praises the Armenian community in New Zealand, one of the representatives of which, Dame Sian Elias, is the Chief Justice of New Zealand.

Foreign Minister recalls with warmth the visit of the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Armenia to New Zealand in 2012, to mark the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, since which the relations between our countries have only expanded and strengthened further.

He also notes that New Zealand is grateful to Armenia for the support during the elections of the UN Security Council (2015-16), and the opportunity for closer cooperation on issues of importance to our region.
