Within the scope of the working visit to United Mexican States the Minister of Emergency Situations D. Tonoyan met with several officials from various countries.
During the meetings, ES Minister discussed key issues of strengthening international cooperation in the field of emergency management and disaster risk reduction. The Minister of Emergency Situations held a meeting with EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Christos Stylianides. During the meeting, multifaceted issues of bilateral interest were discussed. Taking into consideration the new opportunities for cooperation within the framework of the comprehensive and extended partnership initialed agreement between Armenia and the EU, the parties discussed the necessity of including DRR sector in the program priorities. An agreement was reached on the maximum use of EU humanitarian aid and crisis management existing tools.
During the meeting with the Deputy Minister of the Interior of the Islamic Republic of Iran and head of the National Disaster Management Organization, Esmaeil Najjar, the sides discussed the prospects for cooperation between the two countries in the field of disaster risk reduction, as well as joint exercises and the exchange of specialists.
Minister D.Tonoyan also met with Zhaoxi Gu, Vice Minister of Civil Affairs and head of the delegation of China participating in the Global Platform. The sides discussed issues of cooperation in the field of early warning, studying the analytical capabilities of China’s modern DRR center, and the possibility of researching natural and man-made disasters.
During the meeting, the sides also outlined and highlighted the prospects for development of cooperation in improving the capabilities of recovery after natural disasters.
