‘Terrible tragedies are befalling’, the ‘Aurora’ cofounder is terrified

May 29,2017 14:39

Vartan Gregorian, the cofounder of the “Aurora” awards, during the awards ceremony told that he was terrified by the terrible tragedies happening in the world.

“I had written a speech, but I put it into my pocket, since I want to speak from the heart. Nietzsche used to say that if God is dead, everything is possible. Nowadays, people are allowed to do anything, nothing limits them, terrible tragedies are befalling, women are being raped, people are persecuted for their religion, wars are taking place… I’m terrified, but I am very happy that Ruben and Noubar along with me lit the flame of hope, the light, which I hope will illuminate the whole world. This light will shine from a little country called Armenia. We all, regardless our gender and religion, are God’s creatures”, said Mr Gregorian.

One of the “Aurora” prize cofounders, Ruben Vardanyan told that when he became a successful businessman and started to think about his country’s past, he was shocked to find out how many people and nations had risked their lives to help Armenians stay alive. “I’ve heard the story of a boy, who went and bought Armenian children. I realized that we need to confess about our lack of awareness. We must know all the people and funds that have helped us. If you ask ordinary Armenians, no one will know about these heroes. We don’t even have streets named after these heroes, who helped us survive”.
