Fanatic supporters of Eurasianism criticize the failure of Armenia’s Europeanization more than talk about the advantages of the EEU. One of their favorite arguments is the presence of corruption and poverty in Europeanized Moldova. They point out its poor government. Perhaps there can be no two opinions. However, if the presumably Eurasification of Moldova will bring a “stabilization” in the corruption system, consistent Europe makes this country take concrete steps to eliminate corruption. For example, during the elections of Yerevan Elders’ Council, the opposition accused Taron Margaryan of getting rich at the expense of public funds.
This is actually a corruption charge, but no action was taken on the appeal, although, some deputies of the parliament made claims too. Such statements do not remain without consequences in Moldova. Recently the Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Kirtoake has been arrested on a charge of carrying out corrupting activities. That is if Eurasificated Armenia only talks about the need to fight against corruption, at best, it sets up some new institutions, Europeanized Moldova takes concrete actions. Now they say that the bill on setting up a corruption preventing Commission lays down the foundation to have a body that will have more powers than the ethics committee of senior officials has. Perhaps it’s hard to argue, especially when the new committee will have its own budget and is going to be formed by the parliament. On the other hand, the current parliament is a manifestation of corruption, and it is hard to imagine that the deputies who “buy” people’s votes will appoint five “angels” as members of the new committee, who will become the symbols of the fight against corruption.
