Jean-Francois Charpentier: ‘I’m sure EU-Armenia agreement will be signed’

The Ambassador of France to Armenia, Jean-Francois Charpentier was asked whether there are any political obstacles that might prevent the EU-Armenia new framework agreement to be signed. Let us remind, that the agreement is expected to be signed at the Eastern Partnership summit in Brussels in November. The Ambassador said, that the agreement is a result of a long and precise process of negotiations, and involves a pretty great subject-matter, “I have no doubts, that the agreement will be signed during the Eastern Partnership summit in Brussels. France is one of the strong supporters of the EU-Armenia negotiations resumption. This agreement is very important for the political balance in the region”.

As regards the cancellation of the EU visa regime in Armenia, he said, that there is such point in the EU-Armenia initialed agreement. “It is hard to tell about any dates now. After the agreement is signed, we will see. But that the question is on the agenda is a fact”.

In any case, the French ambassador assured that they are doing everything to facilitate the mobility, by providing long-term visas, responding to requests within 48 hours, and rejecting Armenian citizens the least compared to other EU countries.
