“Such operations have not been carried out, are not carried out and will not be carried out in the near future”, told Tigran Davtyan, the Director of the Financial Policy Department of the Eurasian Economic Commission referring to the single currency foundation within the Eurasian Economic Union. He explained: “It is a matter of sovereignty. The ideology of a single currency will bring forth a single monetary policy as today in the European Union. That is – there is Eurobank which conducts monetary policy, they have Euro, we are not ready for that today, I cannot say when we will be ready. When we speak, we speak of single financial markets in 2025, that is – harmonized.”
According to Tigran Davtyan, it is less possible that the conversations about proceeding to a single currency will continue: “Every state trembles for its sovereignty. It is another issue that we work on creating a counting unit. That is – we work to make the calculations to be carried out either via national currencies or to create a certain counting unit.”
