Life after Azerbaijan cannonade: how do Talish people live?

June 11,2017 15:36

Bombarded Talish village was left without inhabitants during the military operations launched by Azerbaijan in April 2016. Some of the inhabitants, about 20 families, now live in Alashan resort village. Of course, living in a one-storey building with 20 families is not comfortable. However, talking to Talish people makes it obvious how much they are looking forward to returning to their village, although it is difficult to meet the needs of the family.

One of them cultivates a small piece of land, keeps domestic animals, another repairs car. Some of the women are teachers. Their day begins and ends at one of the resort buildings, which has been turned into a school. I visited Zhasmen, a 62-years-old granny, when she was chopping some wood. She was hardly bowing down, holding the axe in her stiff hands, and after each next chop she was sighing.

The granny told she had heard some explosions on April 2, during the night. “I was alone at home. My house was secluded. I hurried to the community municipality. They bombarded about fifty meters away from me.  I fell on my knees. My ears were closed out of fear”.

Since then, Zhasmen granny’s legs have been selling, and she cannot afford to get treatment. She confessed, that she suffers, does the house chores, moves around so that the disease cannot defeat her.

Zhasmen Mezhlumyan lives with her daughter and four granddaughters. Alashan’s land and water are already dear to them. “We are getting by”, she said.
