June 12,2017 16:35

“The new phase of Turkey’s Middle East policy is based on the factor of using its armed forces beyond the borders. Strategically this is not dangerous yet, but it should be expected that Turkey will continue this policy”, said Turkologist Ruben Safrastyan, referring to Turkey’s decision on providing Qatar with military support, and deploying troops in that country. “This increases the danger level in the Middle East, while the situation is growing worse and becomes more dangerous”, he noted.

The Turkologist stressed that in parallel with that process, Russia successfully strengthens its policy in the Middle East. “From this perspective, the significance of the Republic of Armenia increases for Russia, regarding its geopolitical location, Armenian communities in the Middle East, and the Russian military base in Armenia”, assured Safrastyan.

The speaker does not expect that in this context, Russia will create an opportunity for Azerbaijan to display activity, “Russia will try to maintain the status quo in the region”.
