The Assembly of the Armenians of Europe strongly condemns Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s hypocritical statement against a number of Arab countries, that qualifies the blockade of Qatar, on the basis of charges on behalf of the above countries against it as a state supporting terrorism, as an “inhuman” act.
Three million Armenians in the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno Karabagh) live under blockade since 1993. The blockade has been imposed by Turkey from the West, Azerbaijan from the East and by the abnormal situation reigning in Georgia from the North. Mr. Erdogan, who is responsible for the maintenance for a quarter of a century of the blockade against Armenia, should be the last person to have the right to condemn similar actions aimed against other states and peoples.
Conflicts and disagreements among states and nations should be solved through diplomacy and negotiations. The Assembly of Armenians of Europe calls the International and European institutions to take measures of sanctions against Turkey for the 25 years of inhuman blockade against the Armenian people in Armenia and Artsakh and help to unblock the last closed border in Europe.
