1992-95 Special Envoy of President of RA, 1994-95 Leader of NSS of Armenia, leading analyst at Regional Studies Centre David Shahnazaryan noticed some remarkable terms in the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs’, Igor Popov, Stefan Visconti and Richard Hoagland, statement made at the result of their visit to the region, but he marked the following out of those,
“There is a key point in Co-Chairs’ statement. Speaking about their visit to Zangelan, Kubatlu, Lachin, and Kelbajar districts, the Co-Chairs called these regions “Territories around Nagorno-Karabakh”, and not “occupied territories”. I am sure that the term will cause serious concern in Azerbaijan. I hope this is the success of our diplomacy and not only the result of Azerbaijan’s non-constructive policy. I think now one of the priorities of our diplomacy should be the maintenance of this wording in the negotiation process”, said David Shahnazaryan.
