The journalists asked about the NKR conflict settlement, the situation evolved from June 16 to 17 and 3 victims. Asked whether it was time to pass from announcements to certain steps Piotr Switalski answered: “The Co-Chairs work very well in a rather difficult environment, where a number of challenges exist. We, as the EU, express our support to the Minsk Group Co-Chairs. During several days the EU Special Representative will come to the Republic of Armenia. His visit in the name of the EU is a demonstration that we care about this situation.
Our primary role is the assistance to Minsk Group intermediary efforts, but we are ready to manifest additional support towards the peace process, including in the period succeeding the conflict. The loss of lives is of course very sad because their whole life was in front of them. These permanent cases of the ceasefire violation, of course, are concerning because this kind of peace can be very fragile, we know the incident of the last year. Consequently, let me show my sympathy to the parents of the victims and families and let us try to work for peace. This should be one of the priorities in this region.”
