Minister assures that there are no artificial monopolies in Armenia

June 23,2017 19:36

After the government session journalists asked the Investment and Economic Development Minister Suren Karayan about the US Ambassador to Armenia Richard Mills’ announcement on 8 billion dollars investment program in Armenia. The Minister refused to answer, saying that the addressee of the question is the Ministry of Energy. Commenting on the fact that he also manages the investment sector, Karayan again refused to answer.

Let us remind that the Ambassador also expressed hope that the Armenian authorities will create equal conditions for these investments. In this regard, the Minister said that there are equal investment conditions in Armenia, “This is the process where we are constantly taking steps to create equal competitive conditions”.

In response to the question whether there are any monopolies in Armenia, Karayan said, “If we remove natural monopolies, then I can say yes”.

As for the accusations that the EU does not make investments, the government cooperates only with EAEU countries, and the prime minister has never visited the EU countries, Mr. Karayan said, “It does not mean anything yet, we have had many meetings and many partners from European countries have visited Armenia. Several days ago, our partners from France visited, who may make investments in light industry reducing orders”.
