Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan attended the official opening ceremony of the first solar panels factory in Armenia. The company has been operating in Armenia since 2016 with the brand of SolarOn.
The Premier toured the factory getting acquainted with the production process and development prospects. SolarOn was said to produce solar panels of 10 MW annual capacity. 50 people are employed at full workload. The starting level of investment is about USD 2 million.
The company plans to supply solar panels on the domestic market and then to export to regional and other countries. A solar mini-station with a capacity of 1.5 kW, which can produce about 200 kWh of electricity a month, will cost USD 1.5-1.7 thousand. Since the spring of 2017, the company has been working in a test mode and has already implemented a number of solar installation projects for industrial and residential areas.
Note that at the February 23, 2017 Cabinet meeting, the Government decided to exempt ProfPanel LLC of customs duties for any such technology, equipment, components, spare parts and raw materials as might be imported under its investment program.
