“It would be a great surprise if the National Assembly rejected the government’s proposal”, Gagik Sukhudyan, the author of the main plan of “Sevan” national park, told journalists. Let us remind, that at the government’s suggestion, the issue of increasing the amount of 170 million cubic meters of water to be discharged from Lake Sevan by 100 million cubic meters for this year will be discussed at the extraordinary session of the National Assembly.
According to the expert, the current high water level of Sevan endangers the owners of rest houses, restaurants, who have made great investments, “Another issue is that the buildings are built with violations. But those houses, restaurants are a secondary problem. This issue can be solved, but you cannot obtain water. You can make a contribution, build a canal, and even an artificial waterfall, but constructing Sevan is not the same. That’s nature’s gift, we should not treat like that”.
Sukhudyan noticed that Sevan is not a reservoir to raise or lower the water level at any time, “It seems like they are playing with Sevan, raising and lowering it. Water has memory and thinking”. The speaker mentioned that additional abundance would lead to the lack of oxygen in the water, “The water temperature will rise. The state of the fish will worsen as different species of fish live in the same volume. Lowering the level of water will bring to nothing good, except for receiving electricity from hydropower plants. Eco-diversity will also be reduced”.
