Nagorno-Karabakh Will Never be Aggressor, Says Presidential Spokesperson

July 05,2017 15:17

Azerbaijan’s recent aggressive raids along the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) frontline amount to an inhuman act beyond a reasonable evaluation, says Davit Babayan, a spokesperson for the country’s president, reports Tert.am

“Azerbaijan also uses the kind of weaponry which never changes the military-political balance in the region. That demonstrates, yet another time, that Azerbaijan is a terrorist country, a paranoiac, so to say. Azerbaijan has been retaliated disproportionately. And they apparently have losses, tangible losses I think,” he told Tert.am, commenting on the late Tuesday offensives.

Babayan noted that the Azerbaijani military very often cover up their human losses in heavy attacks, reporting the fataltities only weeks later and citing such reasons as snake bites or sunburn.

The spokesperson further reiterated Nagrono-Karabakh’s resolute stance on active defense, a strategy which he said is the underlying principle behind the Armenian side’s military doctrine. “We will never act as an aggressor, but any form of aggression will be retaliated against,” he explained.

Asked to comment on the situation along the country’s borders on Tuesday night and in the early hours of Wednesday, Babayan said it was relatively calm. “Such shootings from sniper guns and other [weapons] are almost always heard; they have in a way become part of the regular routine. But the night passed without incidents,” he added.
