‘Bako Sahakyan is a consolidating force in all political circles’, head of ‘Democracy’ faction

July 08,2017 13:42

Vardges Baghryan, head of the “Democracy” faction of the Artsakh Republic National Assembly, said during an interview, that it is not accidental that the three parliamentary forces (“Free Homeland”, “Dashnaktsutyun” and “Democratic Party of Artsakh”), decided to nominate Bako Sahakyan’s candidacy.

“These three forces have been the backbone for the implementation of Bako Sahakyan’s political and economic programs in Artsakh, related to the country’s development. So I do not think this decision is accidental. We find that Bako Sahakyan is the politician who is a consolidating force not only in the parliamentary but also in the extra-parliamentary political circles. That is why our party has unanimously decided to nominate the candidature of Bako Sahakyan. We also supported his candidacy in 2007 and 2012”, noted Vardges Baghryan.

He emphasized that it is not the first time in Artsakh when the National Assembly elects the President of the country. A similar situation occurred in 1994, when Robert Kocharyan was elected president by the parliamentary elections.

The deputy of the National Assembly noted that the number one problem remains the country’s security, “I think today we cannot allow ourselves to go for a dichotomy, which can be the case when the political forces of the parliament propose various candidates. The fragmentation of political forces in our country is undesirable”.

He said the elections day will be announced on July 13, which will be a day between July 19 and 29.
