According to Chairman of Committee to Protect Freedom of Expression, Ashot Melikyan, Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Armen Ashotyan’s proposal on controlling the internet is an old story.
“Many are trying to establish control, on the one hand, it is evident that there are processes in the internet that do not have any concerns with the freedom of speech and morality, and thousands of abuses occur, on the other hand, solutions have not been found even in developed democratic countries yet, they are still in search, I think that in this case, Armenia does not need to run ahead the world, especially when the solutions are not obvious”, said Mr Melikyan.
According to him, all previous attempts to introduce regulation could have been more harmful than beneficial, because, “These restrictions were a serious threat to freedom of speech, they should be very careful, I do not think that deputies who make such proposals have solutions that will be acceptable, which will also be in accordance with international norms”.
