July 10,2017 18:38

According to NA Vice President Eduard Sharmazanov, the recent tensions on the border were Azerbaijani tricks, “failed shows” to distract international community. Touching upon the meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan to be held in Vienna, Eduard Sharmazanov expressed the conviction that the RA Foreign Minister will properly present the situation and the position of the Armenian side with all the toughness.

Eduard Sharmazanov drew attention to the recent announcement by the RF that the Russian citizens of Armenian origin are being treated wildly in Azerbaijan. This is a very serious message, which indicates that political relations between Moscow and Baku have entered an unfavorable stage. It is not the first time that Azerbaijan is carrying out subversive acts, and the RF Foreign Ministry’s statement proves that Moscow is dissatisfied with Azerbaijan”.

In response to the question, what benefits can the Armenian side gain from it, Eduard Sharmazanov said, that not everything needs to be spoken out, but the Armenian diplomacy should do everything for the implementation of agreements of Vienna and St. Petersburg, because, without that, we cannot speak of progress.

After the April war of last year, the Armenian side toughened its position and announced about the necessity of full return of Artsakh to the negotiating table. To the question, what practical, and diplomatic steps have been taken in this regard, Eduard Sharmazanov said, “Should we have slammed the door and left?”, adding, that relevant diplomatic steps were taken and the result of which also was the OSCE Minsk Group’s statement that Artsakh should be a full party to the negotiation process.

To the remark, whether the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly has urged the parties to resume negotiations soon and to reach a solution, Eduard Sharmazanov added, that before that the European Parliament had made a more important statement, emphasizing the right to self-determination. “It was the diplomatic success of the Armenian side”, he said.
