“If you think Bako Sahakyan not concerned with Artsakh democracy issues, you are wrong then”

July 26,2017 17:35

As already known, on July 19, the Parliament of the Republic of Artsakh re-elected incumbent Bako Sahakyan as the President of Artsakh. It is the 3rd time the latter was nominated and his opponents were announcing that his office might leave a black dot on the image of Artsakh.

The Member of Artsakh Parliament from “The Fatherland” faction Rudik Hyusnunts notes that the new electoral system is the result of the wisdom of Artsakh people and political figures: “This format of elections has been chosen by the political forces and seeing the work of these years been conducted throughout the 2 presidential periods of Bako Sahakyan’s office and the tandem they have realized together with Ara Harutyunyan during these 10 years, have recorded averaged 9% economic growth. The political forces have both demanded and required for this tandem to continue in this transitional period. We want these united operations to continue in favor of Artsakh and us to make a progress to the glory of our people.”

The other presidential candidate Eduard Aghabekyan tells Bako Sahakyan’s election cannot lead to any positive result: “We will drop to the level of our enemies, at least.” Mr. Hyusnunts was asked to refer to this viewpoint.

“Honestly speaking, such strict expressions are not characteristic of the Artsakh people’s nature. And I think that it is an exaggeration, inasmuch as no such danger exists, forasmuch as knowing our President, we have made, asked, demanded him to retake the heavy burden of these 3 years by ourselves, and the process will show how we will provide our political continuity”, he states, adding that initially they have been for the parliamentary system, but April events showed that they should go forward with a more organized hierarchy and quicker-made decisions, that is the reason why they chose to pass to a presidential system.

Addressing to another concern of the opponents implying that Bako Sahakyan can be nominated also for the 4th time in 2020, Rudik Hyusnunts notes: “Frankly speaking, if you think that Bako Sahakyan is not concerned with democracy issues, you are wrong then. The time will show that our people will choose a wiser, a more beautiful and correct path headed by the President.”
