American lawmakers with a rare harmony voted in favor of a bill, which imposes sanctions on Russia with unprecedented severity. This package is a heavy blow to Moscow’s military and economic capabilities, the capabilities relying on which official Yerevan continues its membership in the CSTO and the EAEU, recognizing Russia as “a strategic ally”.
The fact is that the country will face great challenges, which Russian experts state too, and it is not a fact that Armenia should continue its “traditional” policy and draw those challenges on. There are already appeals in Armenia for reassessing the threats and reviewing security, and foreign economic policy approaches. How is it justified? What is the true interest of Armenia in this new order? These can be proved only as a result of the public debate. At least, it is clear that it’s no longer the same as before and will not be, and what will happen afterwards depends on all of us: on everyone’s collective will and intellect.
