At the press conference Hrachya Rostomyan, President of the Armenian Basketball Federation, touched upon the participation of boys and girls under the age of 16 in the European “C” Division Basketball Championship, spoke about the path already passed, as well as the possibility of developing sport games in Armenia.
“Armenian Basketball Federation participated in European Junior Championships with five teams this year. Earlier, girls under 18 years had won a silver medal, and recently our 16-year-old boys and girls became European champions in Andorra and Gibraltar.
These achievements show that the federation is on the right way. Look at the history of the past three years and you will see that the number of Armenian teams and medals in the European Championships is increasing steadily.
And this is in the case when there is a misconception that we are strong only in single-fight sports, that we do not succeed in a team fight, we cannot unite. That’s not true. We have discussed this issue with the President of the Armenian National Olympic Committee Gagik Tsarukyan and found the key solution. Armenia can not only develop team sports but also record results. Evidence is obvious. For that, professionals need to be well-informed, compassionate, hard-working and goal-oriented. Otherwise it is easy to find excuses and blame others.
The Armenian Basketball Federation has passed a long and difficult path for three years. It is also the result of a hard work of these three years that we have the right to participate in the official, world championship group stage for the first time at the national team level. And on August 2 we will host the Slovak team in Yerevan”, said Hrachya Rostomyan.
